Dani ThompsonDani Sets the Mood...

YOU GO TO MY HEAD: This song sets the mood for LIKE A WOMAN. Maybe you know someone whose smile "makes your temperature rise?"

PINEY BROWN BLUES: This reminds me of my mentor and wonderful teacher - Ernie Washington who taught me to sing the blues. I sang in his club in Honolulu called "Mugg's Place." I don't "get down" with this one, as I would in a club setting. I wanted to keep the mood "cool." Just a different take on it.

SIDESHOW: Remember this poignant song from the 70's. Guaranteed to "make you cry."

BODY AND SOUL: Yes, I sing this in Spanish. Seems to lend itself to this fluid and beautiful language... and some of the English lyrics are dated.

I'M IN LOVE AGAIN: The wonderful Peggy Lee wrote this with Cy Coleman. Her family sent me the lead sheet for the song, after I expressed my desire to include it on LIKE A WOMAN. I was actually singing it at Soho's jazz club in Santa Barbara, the night she died. What a tragic loss for all of us.

DON'CHA GO 'WAY MAD: Heard Ella and Frank sing this song. It's sassy. Love Time Emmon's bass line on this - don't you?

EASY LIVING: First heard this on one of Billie's albums. It moved me, and I've been singing it ever since. It's often a request.

ALL OF YOU: Do you know Fred Astaire? He had such style and had such a way with lyrics... and when he danced with Ginger!! I often open a show with this. It's a good "getting to know you" piece -- no?

NE TE'N VAS PAS: This was the first song I ever wrote. It's called "Don't You Go Now" in English, but I think it's prettier in French. Don't you? I was living in Santa Barbara and bought some flowers regularly at this sweet flower stand. The owner was gracious and French, and we talked about music and poetry. I asked her to translate some songs for me, and I think she did a great job. You'll hear more renditions in some future CD's of mine. Her name is Mignon.

DON'T YOU KNOW?: A little swing piece I wrote for LIKE A WOMAN. I just wanted something simple and uncomplicated that maybe you'd like to dance to -- West Coast swing, of course! Warta Jazz in Indonesia is playing it on the radio there! Do they swing dance there???

THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT: I think this goes hand in hand with "You Go to My Head." It's romantic and good for really "slow dancing!"

MIDNIGHT SUN: I love singing this. It has such great melody and lyrics. Oh, those octaves!

TWO SLEEPY PEOPLE: Inspired by Peggy Lee again. Bud and I were in the studio alone. This just seemed to be a sweet addition to it all. Made it personal. And, it was very late!

Thank you for sharing this with me... with us. Bud, Tim Pleasant, and Timothy Emmons made this an extraordinary experience for me. And, it's just the beginning..................
